One of the basic needs to enjoy your adventure is to have good health. It is very important to check with your doctor if there is any medication (like malaria tablets) or special health recommendations in the region you are visiting. We recommend you complete any courses of vaccines that you are prescribed. Additionally, you can also consult the websites of The World Health Organization and National Travel Health Network.
While on the trip, please talk to us as soon as you feel any discomfort so we can take action for it. At least one of Lupita’s crew accompanying you has done a Red Cross First Aid Basic Course. However, in the case of a medical emergency during your trip, our priority is to help you visit a medical professional (this is why we have two crew onboard). Health services can vary considerably depending on the region you are travelling to, but we will assist you in finding the best solution.
In general, Mexico, Guatemala and Belize are safe countries for tourists, where locals welcome visitors with open arms and go out of their way to help you. However, there is an inherent risk in every adventure travel. Choosing a respectable local company such as Lupita for your experience drastically reduces this issue. We take security as a priority and therefore have implemented important measures that you can check on our Safety and Security page.
Before your tour begins, it is recommended to check your government’s travel advice (Bear in mind that these sites are obliged to err on the side of caution – the vast majority of travellers don’t experience any of the reported problems):
We require that you purchase medical travel insurance that includes repatriation on all our tours. You must have valid insurance on the first day of your trip otherwise we won’t be able to take you with us.
Please, ensure that your insurance is designed for adventure travel and activities such as rafting, trekking, horse-riding (with a helmet), etc. Moreover, it is a good option if your insurance includes treatment and repatriation for Covid-19. The company you choose must have 24-hour assistance and be experienced in handling situations in developing countries.
Please, if you have annual or credit card travel insurance, ensure they have the coverage you require, as many of these policies are not suitable for adventure travel in remote areas. Many credit card medical insurance policies are not suitable for travelling outside your country of residence…
We recommend that your policy has the following minimum levels of cover:
Please note all advice written on this page is just our recommendation as a tour operator. You should always prioritize your doctor’s health advice.
One of the main advantages of joining an organized trip is your security, as we know about the possible situations that may occur and advice you in advance. Through this section, we want to suggest you some tips. Please take into account that these are general preventions, the countries we visit are quite safe as far as you follow the main tips.
