Our Responsible Tourism Policy

Preserving Sustainability and Diversity
Home > About Us, Lupita Overland > Our Responsible Tourism Policy

The tourism industry represents the main income in Mexico, Guatemala and Belize. At Lupita, we recognize the benefits tourism might bring to the countries that we visit. At the same time, we also take into account the negative impacts on local cultures and nature. Thus, our Responsible Tourism Policy promotes sustainable practices and involves local communities. This is crucial in our itineraries and also a big part of your experience.

Local communities empowerment
  • We respect the local cultures and traditions and make our best to preserve and learn from them. In particular, we try to generate the least impact and avoid overloaded places.
  • Our customers receive first-hand information about local traditions and responsible tourism. Besides, we keep ourselves updated on the political, natural, and social situation.

Support for local businesses
  • Lupita is a Mexican company and pays 16% of taxes for each sold tour and 30% of each year income balance. So, feel free to ask for the official receipt of your trip once you book it. To clarify, this only applies to the Mexican Tax System.
  • Moreover, we encourage our customers to buy at local markets for our cook group meals.
  • Finally, Lupita keeps long term relationships with local guides, activities, campsites and hotels. This way, we get a continuous mutual benefit.

Environmental Commitment
  • We choose environmental-engaged companies for our activities.
  • Moreover, our team always follow the authorities’ recommendations to preserve natural areas.
  • We have a zero-trace and recycling policy. Moreover, we encourage our customers to dispose of their waste in the best possible way. All travellers receive free potable water, so they can refill their bottles. Besides, we provide shopping bags so they avoid using plastic.
  • Finally, we made an effort to buy a brand-new vehicle in 2020. Our engine is as efficient as possible, reducing carbon offset. There must be at least 4 passengers on each tour to avoid a high carbon offset per passenger rate.

Defence of human rights
  • We try to create a good example by providing good conditions for all our staff and collaborators. We don’t get involved with any provider that promotes unfair labour conditions.
  • We forbid our staff and customers to take part in prostitution, drugs or exploitation.

Fight against animal cruelty
  • We don’t include any activity which has to do with animal exploitation or a negative impact on nature. So, we discourage buying souvenirs made of protected species.
  • Additionally, we inform our customers to have the least impact on wildlife.

Constant responsible tourism policy updates
  • Lupita appreciates opinions coming from our passengers about our responsible tourism. We are always happy to keep learning and improving.
  • Besides, we often check our responsible tourism policy, avoiding unsuitable activities.

Our participation in local projects

Our responsible tourism policy is a priority when designing our trips. Thus, we aim to have a positive influence on both locals and overlanders. We visit some local-run projects to learn and collaborate, promoting solidarity. Moreover, we encourage our customers to take part too. Click here to know more details.
