The Copper Canyon is the most famous attraction in Northern Mexico. It is known in Spanish as Barrancas del Cobre and is more profound and larger than the Grand Canyon. Moreover, the associated El Chepe train is one of the most impressive train rides in the world. Throughout the trip, you will see majestic landscapes and walk-in its forests. Moreover, you’ll get to know historical sites and go deep into rich cultures and traditions.
El Chepe Railroad
Around the Copper Canyon, “El Chepe” is one of the world’s ultimate train rides. From El Fuerte, we take this famous train heading North- East along the canyon. This section is the most interesting part of the whole route!
El Fuerte
This beautiful colonial town is the Gateway to Copper Canyon. Its name derives from the fort constructed to defend against the tribes who resented the Spanish intrusion. Some of its attractions are Deer Island and the petroglyphs.
Cerro del Gallego
This is a spectacular lookout point that will blow your mind as you look out over the Urique Canyon. To reach this point, you pass through the highest part of the Copper Canyon at 4,000m to reach the lookout at 2,286m!
Divisadero Park
This Adventure Park is home to a cable car, the world’s second-longest zip line, a via Ferrata and much more. Three important canyons of the Sierra Tarahumara can be found here: the Urique, Tararecua and Copper Canyon.
Raramuri Community
We will enjoy a full-day activity at a Raramuri Community. Its inhabitants will provide us with food and share their culture while we stay with them. Additionally, we will enjoy a hike around the canyons and camp under the stars.
Creel Valleys
The scenery around Creel is breathtaking. These valleys contain rock formations that resemble mushrooms, frogs and monks. Nearby we will find the Jesuit mission of San Ignacio and the spectacular scenery of Aarareco Lake.
