Papantla and El Tajín

Flyers of Papantla

Papantla, in the Mexican state of Veracruz, is probably the most interesting town to visit in east Mexico.

At our arrival, we will make sure to pass through the village to witness the ancestral performance of the flyers of Papantla, which symbolizes the rain falling.

Enjoying Cumbre Tajín Festival

On our second day, we will visit the world heritage site of El Tajín. Its architecture is unique in Mesoamerica due to its elaborate carved reliefs. The Pyramid of the Niches reveals the astronomical significance of the buildings.

Vanilla Tour at Papantla

In order to visit El Tajín, we camp at a nearby vanilla hacienda, where the local women will teach us some cooking. Moreover, Jose Luis, the owner, will guide us through the vanilla plantations, revealing all secrets of this aromatic plant.

Kid at the Cumbre Tajín Cultures Festival

If you visit Papantla in March, you’ll be able to witness the spring equinox and the Cumbre Tajín Festival. This event promotes the cultural richness of the Totonacapan region through exhibitions and workshops. There are also mystic rituals and traditional games. Moreover, the Takilhsukut Park and the site El Tajín host concerts of folk singers and orchestras.

You can find the tours visiting Papantla below. Note you will need to choose any of the tours running in March if you are interested in the Cumbre Tajín Festival. We can only know the exact dates three months before it takes place. Therefore, we can only guarantee that we will witness the Spring Equinox, but not necessarily the event itself. Your flexibility is much appreciated!
