Northern Mexico’s deserts are often roundly overlooked by visitors. However, there’s plenty worth seeing here. Expansive arid plains dotted with cactuses serve as common backdrops in Westerns Movies. All in all, these dry and dusty landscapes are something truly unique and remote.
One of Sonora’s most stunning natural attractions is the World Heritage Site of El Pinacate. This biosphere reserve combines ever-shifting sand dunes with spectacular volcanic craters to create a landscape like no other.
Through our adventures, we spend two days of pure Overlanding, combining camping under the stars with incredible hikes around the desert.
Once a silver mining village with cobbled streets, Real de Catorce is now one of Mexico’s most famous ghost towns. In addition, the surrounding territory is of vital importance to the indigenous Wixárika (Huichol) tribe who, every year, scour the region in search of peyote, a psychedelic cactus that they regard as a deity.
Besides offering incredible beaches and marine wildlife, Baja California is also home to stunning desert scenery, full of cactuses and sprinkled with beautiful oases. Among others, some of the spots we visit on our tours are La Zorra Canyon Oasis and the cave paintings at Sierra de San Francisco.
This beautiful nature reserve, nestled in the rugged mountains between northern Baja California and Sonora, counts with natural water pools to relax, palm tree groves to hike around and amazing sunsets!
Within the state limits of Durango, lies Mexico’s “Bermuda Triangle” in the form of the so-called Zona del Silencio. Myth and legend have forever circulated about this remote patch of desert, and UFO sightings are often reported in the vicinity. All in all, mystery lovers will love to take any of our tours which stay one night at the Silent Zone with the local community, explore the surrounding reserve and witness the tremendous star sky!
